There was a time when cricket was just considered as a sport in India. But time is changing and it is now a big pool of opportunity for various brands to market their products through some ways or the other. IPL is one of the finest example of it. It is these brands and the money that they are putting in that is making Cricket the most popular and famous sport in India.
There is no denying the fact that Virat Kohli is in his finest form and holds the ability to destroy any bowling attack in the world. When a person is living with such a sublime form and performance, every brand available in the market would want to collaborate and sponsor him. But they need to pay a price for that. And in the case of Virat Kohli, it’s whopping Rs.110 crores. Yes, you read that right.
The company with which he signed this deal is none other than the international apparel brand ‘PUMA’. Virat Kohli has signed an eight year deal and with this, he has joined the ranks of Usain Bolt, Theirr Henry, Oliver Giround, Asafa Powell and many more.
It’s a privilege to be part of a great list of athletes that Puma has. Not just today’s icons like Usain Bolt, but also the brand’s rich history with Pele, Maradona, Thierry Henry and others. Both Puma and I are committed to a long-term partnership. I am impressed by the way Puma has gained popularity and market leadership in India in a short period of time,” said Virat Kohli
His deal of endorsing the German Company includes a fixed payment and a royalty payment that will depend upon the company market performances. Bulk of the endorsement deal, estimated between Rs 12 and Rs 14 crore annually, has been signed on a fixed payout.
And this is not the first time that an Indian athlete has signed off a 100 crore deal. M.S Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar are too in this list, but the 100 crore deal was multi-year deal with various other brands. While it is Virat Kohli who has managed to sign a single deal of 110 crores with just one stroke.
Virat Kohli’s first brand endorsement of Puma product came out through this Instagram post. Have a look at it.
