Qualcomm Accidentally Reveals The New Google Tango Phone, and It Is Amazing

What had started as an awesome beginning to the New Year has turned a bit sour, when they had really “Oops” moment and accidentally revealed(or maybe, let us put it this way, Leaked) the new Asus Zenphone AR, which was supposed to be released at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show due to be held in Las Vegas this year starting on 5th this month. Though what looks to be an honest mistake, Zenphone AR is only the second phone which comes with Tango built in. Though the phone wasn’t due till the 4th of January when ASUS had planned a press-con for the same, Qualcomm in a blog post revealed that Zenfone AR comes loaded with the Snapdragon 821 SoC(implying System-on-chip), which had previously been used in Google’s Pixel and Asus Zenfone 3.

Now this might seem like a little problem, and even Qualcomm went up to the length of pulling down that blog, but the problem is that the internet never forgets; rather it keeps buzzing like the neighborhood Gossip auntie. Now, what is so special about this phone? Apparently, a lot! This happens to be the first phone to be shipped with both Daydream and Tango(Only the second phone to have Tango), and thereby taking advantage of the highly touted Google’s Virtual and Augmented reality program. Tango is basically a set of sensors and to go along with it, and supported by a computer vision software that supports smartphone augmented reality experiences. The first commercially available Tango-enabled was Lenovo Phab2 Pro, running on a Snapdragon 652 processor, was not at all well received by the critics and consumers alike, with the nerds to preferring to for the Booth Babes instead. But what stood out apparently, was Tango, and it was awesome.

The ZenFone AR will support Daydream VR versions of Google Street View, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, HBO and games like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Need for Speed and Gunjack 2. Though there is absolutely nothing concrete as of now, rumors mills have been churning out quite a few things lately, including the image of the phone posted by @evleaks today.

According to the Qualcomm blogpost-
“The ZenFone AR with Snapdragon 821 is built for VR with a high-resolution display, ultra-smooth graphics and high-fidelity sensors for precise head tracking…All Tango-related processing is done on a single, highly efficient SoC (system-on-a-chip), so users of the ZenFone AR can enjoy high-performance smartphone AR user experiences with long battery life…Snapdragon 821 provides the cutting-edge visual, audio and interactive technologies required to deliver a truly immersive mobile VR experience for leading Android smartphones.”

Though the Lenovo Phab2 Pro wasn’t really great, but the experts are really optimistic on the proposed marriage of the Tango with the Daydream, and some have even gone on to state that this might change the future of the mobile phone industry completely. It will be just a matter of time before the CES kicks off, and then we will know whether the Mobile phone’s future is the same or has met with yet another paradigm shift, and has turned into something that would change our lives forever. As of now, the future looks good.
