In May of 2016, a company which went by the name of Sirin Labs came up with a phone which was priced at a whopping $16,000(or approximately 10.5 lakhs in Indian Rupees). Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting Solarin
The phone is titled Solarin and is loaded with all the specs you would expect from a phone priced 50K INR. It boasts of a top of the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, a 24-megapixel camera with auto-focus, a battery which packs in 4000 mAh of juice and 4 and 128 gigs of RAM and ROM respectively.Around the back, there’s a large sapphire glass cover for the camera lens and flash, which sits atop the power button with an integrated fingerprint sensor. Everything you would expect from a top-of-the-line phone!
Why is it so pricey then?
The Sirin Labs have $72 Mils in venture funding, and with that much money, you can actually expect something great. As described by its Founder and CEO, Tal Cohen, this phone is for the “international business person who carries a lot of sensitive information” and “doesn’t want to compromise on usability, quality or design”, this new smartphone from Sirin places an understandable and impressive emphasis on military-grade security.
The handset comes with onboard mobile threat protection tech provided by two of the finest in the business; Zimperium, which deals specifically with device, network and app-based mobile cyber attacks, and KoolSpan, which is known for mobile voice and messaging security. This is where the military-grade kit comes in as the Solarin has chip-to-chip 256-bit AES encryption – the same technology that militaries around the world use to protect their communications. All of this can be started by pressing just one button, a simple security switch added by Sirin Labs which will allow you to get into full James Bond mode.
The phone looks to go toe-toe with the luxury brand Vertu, which had been virtually unchallenged until now. Packed with all the amazing specs and near ballistic security features, this device has also been designed by Karim Rashid and sports metal matrix chassis, something of which is used in Rocket technology, and titanium panels. This device is available exclusively at Harrods in Mayfair.
