All You Need To Know About Kulbhushan Jadhav, The Indian Sentenced To Death By Pakistan

The case of 46-year-old Kulbhushan Yadav turned into a sensation when he was sentenced to death by Pakistani Military Court.

A former officer for Indian Navy, Jadhav was arrested in March 2016 in Baluchistan, Pakistan. He was accused of spying for the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) by the Pakistani government after the trials that he went through.

  •    Difference of Opinion: Pakistan and India

Where Pakistan claimed that Jadhav was caught spying the Baluchistan, India doesn’t abide by the same and says that he was kidnapped from Iran.

Pakistan asserts that Jadhav is an undercover agent of RAW and intended to cause harm to Pakistan by spying on them and providing their secret information to the native country. Pakistani security force said that he works under the cover name of Hussein Mubarak Patel. It’s also claimed that he has been funding the Baluchistan separatists and promoting terrorists by providing them finances. A video of Jadhav’s interrogation was made public where he claimed that he has been working for RAW. Baluchistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti annotated-

“Jadhav was … working for RAW and was in contact with Baloch separatists and terrorists fuelling sectarian violence in Pakistan and Balochistan …The Indian spy was involved in financially supporting terrorists and also confessed to his involvement in Karachi unrest.”

India on the other hand still remains on the initial claim that Jadhav is merely a Navy Officer. Also, they pointed out that the video that Pakistan has released is forced upon Jadhav and is merely a plot to defame the man.

India tried talking to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry several times but, nothing could be concluded.

Sushma Swaraj said-

“… we have no choice but to regard the sentence, if carried out, as an act of premeditated murder … Let me state clearly that the government and people of India would view very seriously the possibility that an innocent Indian citizen is facing death sentence in Pakistan without due process and in violation of basic norms of law, justice and international relations. I would caution the Pakistan government to consider the consequences for our bilateral relationship if they proceed on this matter.”

  •    What the nation wants to say:

Pakistan has been criticized a lot for this action. The reliability and validity of the trail have been doubted by various countries where they hinted towards the secret trails and investigations. Also, Iran said that Pakistan is trying to ruin the India-Iran relationship by using the spy-thing.

  •    What follows this decision:

Jadhav has been sentenced to death by the military court in Pakistan and has a time span of 60 days to file his appeal. This will lead to a prolonged trail due to which Jadhav would have to stay in jail in Pakistan at least for years, if not decades.

Pakistan has done this to a lot of cases earlier, where they regarded people as the Indian spies. The cases of Sarabjit Singh, Kashmir Singh, Surjeet Singh and the like are well known to the masses.

The Indian government has come out there and stated that they will try every possible way to save Jadhav and have also warned Pakistan against the adversities that it would have to face in the bilateral relationship if they go ahead with this matter.
